What costs are incurred when building a website?2022-10-05T11:56:00+00:00

Many variables constitute the cost of a website.  Choices include a domain name and web hosting service. Other optional considerations include but are not limited to – design fees, security features, backup services, and professional images.

What is a CMS?2022-10-05T11:55:39+00:00

CMS, stands for Content Management System.

This software allows for easy creation of websites without having to possess detailed technical knowledge. Many boast of being a “drag and drop” format or “WYSIWYG” – meaning “What You See Is What You Get”. This makes it relatively simple to form a website without coding skills.

Popular CMS include WordPress, Wix, Joomla, and Drupal just to name a few.

Why built with WordPress?2022-10-05T11:55:18+00:00

While technically, coding skills are not required when creating sites with WordPress, the benefit of knowing and understanding HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MYSql tremendously increase the overall appearance and functionally of the website.

If I build a website using WordPress, primarily the reason involves one of three reasons:

  • Manageability
    • WordPress by far is the most popular CMS. If clients choose to maintain their site after the designing process is complete, WordPress allows for them to do so. However, one may need some instruction to learn the software.
  • Project Timing
    • WordPress offers the ability to create a website in a short period of time.
  • Budget Constraints
    • Since WordPress shortens the build time, thus fees associated with the design process remain budget friendly compared to the hand-coded websites.
What is the importance of a copyright notice?2022-10-05T11:54:51+00:00

The footer area located at the bottom of the page is generally the same for all the pages of the site. At the very least, the footer should contain :

  • a copyright symbol and/or wording “Copyright” or “Copr.”
  • date of publication
  • the copyright owner

Although, a copyright is not required, it gives notice that the information and images on the site are protected. This helps prevent infridgements on your work.

Should I purchase Domain Privacy?2022-10-05T11:54:21+00:00

Yes. Domain privacy provides protection of your personal data. Without this privacy, the website’s registered owner and their personal information can be easily obtained. The WHOIS public database publicly displays important information to include domain registration, expiration date, status, contact’s name, address, phone, and email.

Domain privacy costs under $20/year. If purchased through your web hosting service, their business information shows instead of your personal information.

Domain privacy also aids preventing identity theft, infiltration (or hacking) of your site, unwanted domain transfer, selling of personal data, and spam messages.

Why is your pricing lower than other designers?2022-10-05T11:53:44+00:00

Southernfolks Designs’ pricing is lower than other designers because I believe a good website design should not cost a fortune. Pricing is dependent upon the size of the site, and I also consider the time it takes to complete the project and the amount of coding involved. That said, lower pricing does not imply an inferior product at the same time, and not every website needs to have all the bells and whistles, and each has its independent requirements.

How do I choose the best website colors?2022-10-05T11:53:22+00:00

Color scheme choices play a vital role in the website design process.

Considerations include the business/organization’s branding as well as color psychology. Limit your choices to three to five colors. First, determine a primary color, and then choose complementary colors. I recommend finding a point of inspiration to help select colors and set the site’s overall tone—online color tools aid in streamlining the process. My favorite color palette generator – is Adobe Color.

How to gain repeat website visitors?2022-10-06T11:23:11+00:00

Ways to gain repeat website visitors include managing and updating your webpage content.

While creating and maintaining websites for clients, gaining appropriate content remains one of the most common stumbling blocks. Many experts stress that “Content is King,” and I couldn’t agree more.

The relevant subject matter on a webpage keeps your visitors engaged, prevents a high bounce rate, and keeps them returning to your site, and outdated information proves meaningless.

Devise a systematic plan for updating website content and stay vigilant in revising your website information.
